Anniversary - Master in Multicultural and International Education 20 years

We welcome everyone with an interest in educational issues in Norway as well as in the Global South to the 20th anniversary of the Master in Multicultural and International Education.

09:00-09:30:  Registration, coffee/tea

09:30 - 09:45  Welcome by Head of Department Gunn Bjørnsen and Vice Dean of Education Finn Aarsæther. Greetings from former Head of Department Johnny Aasen.

09:45 - 10:15: The history of the Master Course, Associate Professor Kristin Skinstad van der Kooij.

10:15 - 10:45:  Associate Professor Ingvil Bjordal, NTNU: "Marketization of education: Increasing segregation in schools in Oslo".

10:45 - 11:00: Break

11:00 - 11:40: Dr. Robert Langley Smith: "Wieving the EFA landscape through a gender lens; progress or problems?"

11:40 - 12:10:  Associate Professor, PhD, Ellen Carm:   "Exploring a third space for sustainable educational development".

12:10 - 13:00:  Lunch

13:00 - 13:30: Students' reflections on the Master course and its significance, Alessandra Dieude, Kabanda Mwansa and Kristine Bjørndal.

13:30 - 14:00:  Professor Anders Breidlid: “Why Nations fail in sub-Saharan Africa. An alternative interpretation”.

14:00 - 14:20: Break

14:20 - 15:00:  Professor Austin Cheyeka, University of Zambia: “The Master program in an International perspective”. Experiences with NOMA and the adaptation of the Master program in education and development at the University of Zambia

15:00 - 16:00: Round table: "SDGs and education: Old wine in new bottles?" In the panel: Ketil Vaas, Save the Children; Olav Seim, Norad; Anne Marie Helland, Norwegian Church Aid; Bob Smith, UK.

16:00:  Closing of the formal programme

16:15: Meet and greet. Exhibition of student academic posters and pictures from fieldwork. Refreshments and venue for former students to mingle.
