Multicultural and International Education
An advanced study programme which provides necessary competence for work related to the Norwegian multicultural schools as well as for international work within the education sector in the South.
Aims and contents
Oslo has at present the largest concentration of citizens with a multicultural background and 25 % of children who start school in the city have a first language other than Norwegian. The new curriculum for the primary school requires that teachers and other employees in the schools must have competence contributing to improving opportunities for pupils with a first language other than Norwegian.
The basic entry requirement is a bachelor degree in education or another bachelor degree in relevant social science disciplines. If the degree is from a non-Norwegian university, it must be based on no less than 3 years of study beyond Norwegian matriculation level and fulfill English language requirements.
The average mark for the subjects included in the vocational basis must be at the same level as C/2,7 or better in the Norwegian grading system. For applicants with both numerically and alphabetically based grades or unstipulated grades, the points conversions as set out in the Admission requirements for HiOA apply.
A limited number of Quota scholarships are available for applicants from countries with whom Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences has collaboration. In 2013 this is planned to be Cuba, Ethiopia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Palestine, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda and Zambia.
Only applicants from institutions which Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Education and International Studies has a cooperation agreement with will be considered for admission. Exceptions from this rule may be accepted when there are special circumstances in the applicant’s home country or home institution that justify admission on individual grounds.
You should check with your home institution whether it has an agreement with Oslo University College, Faculty of Education and International Studies.
