HiOA has a new name: OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University. Find out what this means for you.


HiOA is now known as OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University

The Norwegian government has granted Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HiOA) university status.

HiOA is now a University

From 12 January 2018 we officially became a university. Our new name is OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University. Our Norwegian name is OsloMet – storbyuniversitetet.

OsloMet will continue to function as the same legal entity and our mission statement and institutional profile will remain unchanged.

All of HiOA's previously signed contracts and agreements were transferred to OsloMet on 12 January 2018. Upon renewal the new name will be adopted.

Transition period

We are now in a transition period and you will see our former name, logo and visual identity on documents, websites etc. until the end of 2018. During the transition period, official documents can still be issued with our former name.

There will be a gradual transition:

  • The new logo for OsloMet will be launched after Easter.
  • New websites will be launched in December 2018.

New e-mail addresses

New e-mail adresses with @oslomet.no  were rolled out in April, but you may use our old addresses (@hioa.no) until the end of 2018 . All e-mail addresses are updated on every employee profile at hioa.no and in the employee directory online

Prospective Students

Students applying for a full Bachelor’s degree in Norwegian will find OsloMet’s degree programmes listed under Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HiOA) on the website of The Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. You will see the former name of the university on several other websites until the end of 2018.
