Research project funded by the Research Council of Norway (NFR) 2010 – 2013. Project leader: Einar Braathen. (NIBR-project no.2884).
The project “Cities against poverty: Brazilian experiences” is led by NIBR (Einar Braathen) in partnership with Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento - CEBRAP (Adrian Gurza Lavalle), Observatório das Metrópoles (Félix Sanchez and Brown University (Watson Institute for International Studies) (Gianpaolo Baiocchi). Statistical analysis of available data sets will help trace the impact of local anti-poverty measures in the ten largest cities of Brazil.
The project will subsequently carry out qualitative research in two of the best performing cities and two of the worst performing cities, respectively, in order to suggest the political factors causing the different poverty outcomes.
