Arrival Information
Arriving at a new place can be a bit challenging. We therefore recommend that you read the information below carefully prior to your arrival, so that you will not have any difficulties with finding your way to HiOA or the student housing provider SiO.
Money affairs
Make sure that you have Norwegian kroners (NOK) in cash or a valid credit card when you arrive. You will need it to buy tickets for public transport. You can withdraw money at ATM-machines in the arrival hall at the airport, at the central station or on the ferry with either a credit or a Maestro/EC-card. Kiosks like 7eleven, Narvesen or Deli de Luca often have ATM-machines, too.
Only European students: Please note that apart from withdrawing money at ATM-machines, Maestro/EC-cards are not accepted in Norway.

Get to your student apartment/HiOA
In order to avoid booking a hotel room before moving into your student apartment, we recommend that you plan your journey to Norway so that you arrive during SiO's opening hours.
From the train station or bus terminal in Oslo/Lillestrøm, get to the place where you are going to collect your key for your apartment with the help of Ruter's travel planner. SiO has different offices for individual student villages. In advance, check with SiO where to collect your key and how to get there. In addition, you may also use Google maps. Print out your time schedules/maps for buses and trams and bring them with you. Tickets for public transport can be purchased with Norwegian cash or a credit card at the ticket vending machines at the tram or metro stations. The bigger stations also have ticket desks.
If you arrive outside SiO's opening hours, you will have to book alternative accommodation.
If you have a lot of luggage with you, you might consider taking a taxi from Oslo/Lillestrøm train station to the student apartment. A taxi from the train station (not the airport) to SiO shouldn’t cost more than 300 kroners during day time (more expensive during weekends and at night).
Students at Kjeller Campus: From Lillestrøm Bus Terminal, take the bus 401 (direction Kjeller) or 842 (direction Skedsmokorset) and get off at "Forskningsparken". From there, it is about an 8 minutes' walk to Kjeller Campus in Kunnskapsveien 55 (Skedsmo). Get the timetables/maps for your bus trip at the public transport company Ruter.
It is also a good idea to use the journey planner at Ruter in advance to find out how to get from your student apartment to your campus at HiOA. Your acceptance documents should contain detailed information on where to meet on your first day. If you are unsure, please contact your international coordinator.
