HiOA has a new name: OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University. Find out what this means for you.

Information regarding the transition from HiOA to OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University

Date:  16 February 2018.

We are delighted to inform our partners that the Norwegian Government granted Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HiOA) university status on 12 January 2018. Our new name is OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University.

Greater autonomy

The university status is the result of committed work to enhance the quality of our research and education. The new status grants OsloMet the authority to accredit new master's and PhD programmes, thus making it easier to adjust our programme portfolio to meet the needs of the society and be a leading provider of research-based knowledge that benefits society and the welfare state.

OsloMet will distinguish itself as an urban university with regional and national responsibilities, and with a distinct international orientation.

The same legal entity

OsloMet will continue to function as the same legal entity and our mission statement and institutional profile will remain unchanged. All of HiOA's previously signed contracts and agreements were transferred to OsloMet on 12 January 2018. Upon renewal the new name will be adopted. OsloMet retains the same registration and VAT number, invoice address, and bank account number. All official documents from OsloMet will carry our former name and logo until our new visual identity is finalised. This process is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Our new website oslomet.no will be launched in August 2018. You will find updated information relating to the transition process at hioa.no/eng/oslomet.

We very much appreciate our international partners, and look forward to our continued cooperation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Section for Internationalisation.

Yours sincerely,

Curt Rice, Rector
